FreeTolkien Book Club: Exploring The Silmarillion
Enter the world before the world—where light is sung into being, stars are set in motion, and courage is kindled in the shadow of sorrow. Join us for a journey through The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythic masterpiece that lays the foundation for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Whether you're a lifelong Tolkien fan or opening this book for the first time, all are welcome. We'll read slowly, discuss deeply, and let the themes of beauty, loss, hope, and heroism stir our imaginations and hearts.
As we reflect on the struggles between power and humility, domination and mercy, we'll explore how these ancient stories still speak to our own time, calling us to seek justice, protect the vulnerable, and stand in solidarity with those who resist darkness through love.
Bring your curiosity and a willingness to wonder. No prior reading required—just a love of story and a desire to explore a world rich with meaning.
When: Every other Sunday, 1:30–3:00 PM
Where: LUCAP Room, Lower Level of the Danna Center (across from the Amazon Lockers)
Hosted by: Lindy Brasher, University Minister for Social Justice
