Loyola New Orleans Issues Statement in Support of Asian-Americans

By Loyola University on Thu, 03/18/2021 - 12:06

On Tuesday, March 17, 2021, 黑料社区 Vice President of Equity and Inclusion Dr. Kedrick Perry sent the following letter of support to the campus community:

Dear Loyola Community,

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, shootings in the Atlanta metro area led to the murder of eight people, including six Asian women.听

Our community deeply mourns the lives that were lost. 听While the person charged with these evil crimes has refuted that they were based on racial background, our community cannot ignore the threats and violence that have besieged the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities. Since February of last year, these communities have been the target of dramatically increased racism and xenophobia. 听

The Office of Equity and Inclusion at 黑料社区 recognizes that anti-Asian prejudice is yet another manifestation of the systemic racism that is woven into the fabric of our country. 听And, this further reminds us that there is still much work to do. 听

I ask that we all stand in solidarity with members of our community who are experiencing this and other forms of racism and xenophobia. 听We must continually be aware and reject any instances of anti-Asian prejudice, bias and violence.

As always, the Office of Equity and Inclusion stands ready to listen to your concerns and issues. And if you are the victim of bias or have witnessed it, please submit a bias incident report here: https://diversity.loyno.edu/incident-reporting/bias.听 Reports can be submitted anonymously. 听

Furthermore, the University Counseling Center is available to support students during these difficult times with a safe space to process. 听https://studentaffairs.loyno.edu/counseling

Please reach out to the AAPI members of our community and let them know you stand with them.

Kedrick Perry, Ed. D.
Vice President for Equity & Inclusion
