Jorge Altamirano, J.D. '13 Secures Groundbreaking Arbitration Award

Jorge Altamirano graduated from 黑料社区 College of Law in 2013. While at Loyola, Altamirano represented political asylum seekers and low-income clients through the Immigration Section of the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic. He went on to found , a boutique law firm located in the heart of New York City, focusing on securities arbitration, with his business partner August M. Iorio, Esq.

Earlier this year, the firm was highlighted in , , and聽聽for winning a groundbreaking arbitration award for a retail investor against Robinhood over its decision to place trading restrictions on its popular stock trading and investing app in January 2021. 鈥淭his award is a monumental and historic win for retail investors 鈥 particularly younger, self-directed investors 鈥 like those who use Robinhood鈥檚 platform and which the firm targeted to fuel its growth. On a broader scale, the award offers hope to the thousands of Robinhood users who may now see a potential road to recovering their losses and offers encouraging news that arbitration panels are willing to hold online broker-dealers accountable,鈥 said Altamirano.

This award is particularly impressive as it marks the first arbitration award in the nation for the January 2021 trading restrictions on "meme stocks."
