Magis Moment: December 2021

A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement

People talk about March Madness, but I want to go ahead and declare December Magis as a thing at Loyola.ÌýSure—it’s early in the season, but we all have to be excited about our Wolf Pack student-athletes and Coach Stacy Hollowell’s success to start the 2021-22 basketball season.ÌýÌýThese young men lost their home court to Hurricane Ida and have been practice nomads this fall, and yet they’ve started the season 11-0 and have risen to become the second-ranked team in the country.

Success like this comes from the hard work and talent of the students and coaches at Loyola now, but it’s always important to remember that success is often the result of years of ground building.ÌýÌýToday I’m thinking about the visionary leadership in the 1990s who brought intercollegiate athletics back to Loyola.ÌýÌýI’m thinking about the courageous staff and faculty who brought athletic scholarships back to Loyola in a way that has yielded great results on the court and in the classroom—Wolf Pack student-athletes are consistently among the highest-achieving students in Loyola classrooms.ÌýÌýAnd of course, as the vice president of university advancement, I’m thinking about our donors and volunteers who support our students and coaches.ÌýÌýThe academic and athletic success of our student-athletes is your success as well.ÌýÌýThank you!
