Magis Moment: December 2022

A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement听

Years ago when we worked together at Loyola, my friend Trish Moser 鈥93 told me about the听, a prayer site operated by Irish Jesuits. In today鈥檚 world, we get directed to places on the internet all the time, but that little nudge from Trish in 2005 or so profoundly changed my life for the better. It鈥檚 a site I鈥檝e used almost daily ever since.

In one of the Advent gospels on Sacred Space this year, we read the story of Jesus healing a paralyzed man after his friends carried him up to the roof and lowered 鈥渉im down with his bed through the tiles into the middle of the crowd in front of Jesus.鈥 The miracle of healing and the conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees are the point of that story, but what caught my attention when I read it this time was the paralyzed man鈥檚 friends. I was moved by their care for their friend and the effort and boldness they showed in getting him in front of Jesus, who perhaps would never have met the man without the work of those friends.

Loyola is a place where I鈥檝e experienced that sort of support from friends over and over again. As a student, as an alumnus, and as an employee, I鈥檝e benefited so many times from the Loyola network of support 鈥 when I was riding high and when I was down. I can only hope I鈥檝e done my part to grow and sustain that web of care.

As we end this calendar year and enter Christmas and other holy seasons around the world, I hope you too have been lifted up in some way by Loyola鈥檚 people. If you have, please consider letting them know about your gratitude. I know I owe Trish a call to thank her for Sacred Space and to catch up. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
