Michael A. Smith ’01
Michael A. Smith ’01 (mass communication) is one of the sport’s industry’s most versatile, creative, and accomplished storytellers. He is currently the host of NBC’s new Peacock show, Brother From Another.
Michael began his journalism career while a mass communication student at Loyola University in his hometown of New Orleans, serving first as sports columnist for Loyola’s award-winning paper The Maroon and later as sports reporter and copy editor The New Orleans Times-Picayune. He graduated from Loyola in 2001 and worked as a reporter for The Boston Globe as the paper’s NFL and New England Patriots staff writer. Michael then worked at ESPN for 15 years in a variety of roles across all of the network’s platforms, including reporter, commentator, host, and anchor.
A member of the 2017 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute and current Instructor in Residence at Marist College’s Center for Sports Communication, Michael is also co-founder of Inflection Point Entertainment. Respected from locker rooms to owners’ boxes and beyond, he brings a long list of both sports and entertainment industry experience.
