(New Orleans - August 18, 2021) This fall, �������� welcomes the largest and most diverse first-year class in its 113-year-old history, currently 973 students -- 22% above target and 25% above last year -- while increasing academic qualifications. ��The influx of students comes from Louisiana (43% of the class), across the country (44 states) and around the world (20 countries.)

“For more than 100 years, Loyola has served as an engine of opportunity, providing academic excellence to generations of families from New Orleans and across the country,” said President Tania Tetlow. “Loyola attracts students who are extremely bright and creative, drawn to the innovation of New Orleans and to a diverse campus that reflects America. ��We are especially proud that a third of our students are the first in their family to go to college, just like so many of our remarkably successful alumni.”��

Since 2018, Loyola has continued to improve and adjust its long-term enrollment strategy. ��The Enrollment staff pivoted to a far more individualized operation, using smaller campus tours, clear and concise communications, and creative online engagement, including a variety of options for meeting with prospective students. ��“It requires far more effort, but it means that families receive answers specific to their particular questions,” said Nathan Ament, Chief Enrollment Officer. “As the world changes around us, our individualized approach proves to be more effective than ever.”��

In addition to personalized attention, Loyola announced a permanent Test-Blind �������� policy in the Spring of 2020. ��“At Loyola, we focus on the entire student in the admissions process,” said Ament. “We see the test scores as barriers to a college education and we are looking to provide opportunities for more students. The response from students has been overwhelming and it’s exciting to break these records for applications, enrollment, and diversity.” �� �� ����

At 54% students of color, this first-year class is the most diverse class in the history of Loyola. ��The first-year class of 2021 includes 20% Hispanic students, 19% Black students, 12% mixed-race students, and 3% Asian students. ��One third of Loyola’s student body are the first in their families to go to college and 43% are Pell Grant recipients. This is a rebound from last year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and represents another significant accomplishment for Loyola.��
