First Class! Loyola Unveils New Program Aimed at Local High School Students
Known for academic excellence, New Orleans creativity and a commitment to social justice, Loyola New Orleans helps admitted students get a head start on their college experience.
(New Orleans – Dec. 17, 2019) unveils First Class, a new program that allows eligible local high school students to get a taste of the college experience before they graduate high school and receive valuable college credit – credit that is FREE if they attend Loyola. The program launches in January.
“With Loyola First Class, you can start your college career with college credits already under your belt. Not only can that help reduce the anxiety about college-level courses, it also reduces your tuition costs and helps to ensure you graduate on time – even if you decide to be a double major, study abroad or take on a minor or two,” said Sarah Kelly, senior vice president for enrollment management.
The Loyola First Class program allows eligible high school students from the metropolitan New Orleans area to take one hybrid course at Loyola during the spring semester of their senior year and receive three college credits. Students must be admitted to Loyola for the fall 2020 semester in order to participate. Those who choose to enroll at Loyola will have earned credits applied toward their Loyola undergraduate program at no charge.
During the Spring 2020 semester, . Whether they are interested in local culture, New Orleans street music, climate change, entrepreneurship, or new ways to solve complex problems, students heading off to college in the fall can get ahead.
“This experience will put you head-and-shoulders above your peers, who won’t have had a chance to get a taste of college before showing up on the first day,” said Noel Duncan, a New York/New Orleans-based motion designer and educator who will teach a course in Design Thinking. “You will also get a head start on your credits…which means you will spend less money and time when you actually get to Loyola.”
Applications to Loyola must be complete by January 15th in order to receive an admission decision by the course registration deadline of February 1st, 2020.
