(NEW ORLEANS – September 17, 2019) The �������� College of Law Advocacy Center will host a debate for the candidates seeking to be elected in Louisiana’s 91st and 98th House Districts on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

“We are excited at Loyola Law to promote legislative advocacy by hosting a debate with candidates who seek to represent our school, our students, and our neighbors. Our hope is that these debates will encourage everyone to be more engaged in the democratic process,” said Nicole Montagnet, Program Director for Loyola’s Advocacy Center.

Walter J. Leger III, currently representing District 91 and serving as Speaker of the House Pro Tempore, will moderate the debate for House District 91 candidates. 

Neil C. Abramsom, currently representing District 98, will moderate the debate for House District 98 candidates.

The format for the evening is as follows:

6 p.m.     - 6:30 p.m.    Meet and Greet the Candidates of House District 91
6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.     Debate, House District 91 candidates
7:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.     Break
7:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.     Debate, House District 98 candidates
8:15 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.     Meet and Greet the Candidates of House District 98

The debates will be held in Room 308 of the Loyola College of Law, 526 Pine Street, New Orleans, LA. The meet and greet will be held across the hall from the debates in Room 343.

This is a first-time event for Loyola’s Advocacy Center. Launched in 2018, the Advocacy Center reinforces the ongoing and comprehensive nature of advocacy, from the early stages of negotiation and litigation, through mediation or arbitration, pre-trial and trial practice, and finally with appellate practice. The Center builds on the law school’s rich tradition of advocacy within the Center’s five programs by offering an expanded, cohesive, and seamless vehicle for advocacy education yielding stronger and more complete advocates.
